Lewis collection, new contemporary items, and various media from the Field's Papua New Guinea collection. At nearly 35,000 items, the Field Museum cares for the largest collection of material from the country of Papua New Guinea currently in the United States.

Explore how to honor diverse beliefs and traditions in your classroom.

Join us at the Field Museum on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10am-2pm for a professional learning opportunity designed to engage educators in deep content learning with the Museum&rsquo;s collections, with particular emphasis on Ruatepupuke II, the Māori Meeting House.
This program will help educators explore how to approach teaching about diverse beliefs and traditions with care. As a case study, we will look at how to incorporate artifact inquiry when an artifact, like the Māori Meeting House, is not an object but an ancestor.
Participants will

<li>Understand: How to honor diverse beliefs by incorporating non-Western stories and traditions into instruction.</li>
<li>Do: Role-play responding to student and parent questions about cultures and religious traditions that might be different from their own.</li>
<li>Feel: Prepared to teach about diverse beliefs with care.Registration is open to formal and informal educators of all levels.</li>
</ul>
Illinois Educators will earn 4 hours of Professional Development for attending this workshop. Registration will remain open until Friday, December 5, 2025, or until full.

Explore various specimens collected from the rainforests during the Field Museum's Rapid Inventory 32.

Indigenous Waiwai people in southern Guyana own and manage the Kanashen Amerindian Protected Area (KAPA), a 625,000-hectare reserve. KAPA is the only Indigenous-owned and protected territory within Guyana's National Protected Areas System.
Come meet Phillip Suse, manager of KAPA and community collaborator with the Field Museum's Keller Science Action Center. With a team of Waiwai Rangers from the community, Phillip is responsible for regular monitoring activities to protect biodiversity and safeguard the headwaters of the Essequibo River-- the largest in Guyana.
Phillip will discuss the community&rsquo;s approach to conservation, the importance of collaboration between Western scientists and Indigenous peoples, and the community's participation in the Field Museum's Rapid Inventory 32, a survey of biodiversity and local ecological knowledge.
Visitors to this session will explore various mammal specimens from Guyana, as well as fish and plant specimens collected from the rainforests east of KAPA Indigenous lands during the Field Museum's Rapid Inventory 32.
